杰出的艺术家奖,Creative Writing

The Distinguished Artist Award in Creative Writing is for high school seniors who intend to register at Hope College the fall of their first year.

The awards are very competitive — we receive many applications from very good writers, yet we offer only a few awards each year. Please read all requirements before applying.

Applying is valuable for all students interested in creative writing, since it gives faculty a chance to get to know you and your work before you arrive on campus and begin taking creative writing courses.

The application requires a writing sample, an essay and a recommendation letter. The writing sample and essay are the most important factors in the selection process. Your previous academic record is not as important as your future promise and ability to express yourself with words.

Applications will be available in September. In the meantime, interested applicants can fill out theDAA Interest Form.

Please contact Michelle VanDenend in the English department office at 616.395.7620 orenglish@www.icarseries.comif you have any questions.

Requirements for Award Winners

Award winners must:

  • Enroll in at least 1 creative writing class per academic year
  • Maintain a 2.6 overall GPA

This scholarship, in combination with other resources (such as scholarships, grants, Veterans Benefits or employer-provided tuition benefits), may not exceed your Cost of Attendance (as determined by the college) for any given award year.

If you lose your scholarship for any semester(s) due to such circumstances as a non-qualifying GPA, resources exceeding Cost of Attendance, a third semester of off-campus study or temporary enrollment at another institution, these semesters of eligibility are forfeited and not available for use at a later time. Should you earn your degree in less than eight semesters, you are no longer eligible to receive this award.
